Ever raised chickens? Trust me....a fox is a varmint! So is a mink, so is a weasel!

I eat meat, I've never been opposed to hunting for food. To me, PETA stands for People Eating Tasty Animals.

And I have never been opposed to eliminating the fox which has been raiding your hen house.

But even varmints deserve to be dispatched as quickly & cleanly as possible.

And I repeat....is the coyote that occasionally eats the fox in on this gig? The poison that the County used to use to kill foxes back when the world was a bit different was basically rat poison...ground glass and warfarin, an anti-coagulent....the glass chewed their guts up and the warfarin kept'um bleeding. I've had pancreatitis and a bleeding gut can't be much more fun!

Generally Brian, I agree with you....but I'm more than willing to make exceptions without losing any sleep!

I have had foxes run past my blind, while deer hunting, on 2 occasions. I never even thought about shooting them. There are not enough of them around to be too destructive.

Maybe someone needs to build a better chicken coup?!

Not to take sides, but fox hunting, English style (now banned), doesn't involve guns or traps. When the hounds catch the fox, they tear it to pieces; IMHO, one does not have to be a nutcase PETA type to have a few qualms about that.

But that's what puts us a step above the wild creatures. Or so I thought.

Yes, we kill. Mostly to eat, sometimes for sport.

I'm no bleeding-heart namby-pamby. I eat meat. I hunt & fish. But I believe it is my duty to the animal which I am taking to dispatch it as quickly and cleanly as possible. Note I said "as possible". I know a quick, clean kill, down & out & never knew what hit it, isn't always going to happen. 'Specially on larger game which can sometimes run for hundreds of meters with a hole in its heart. But it is always desirable.

Bottom line, I don't enjoy watching my prey suffer for any longer than it has to.

Semi-antisemantics are OK; it's the full auto antisemantics that require a special license but even they are completely outlawed in New Jersey, even though many practicing orthodox semantics live in the northern part of the state.
