Shot her today at fifty yards with the Iron sights. The eight three inch targets were shot with three types of ammo. First was Lapua Master L, next SK Jadg match and last Wolf Match Extra. The Match Extra was the best with a Ten shot group under .5 inch. The smallest group in the big targets is a ten shot group of MT. The smaller 1.5 inch targets were shot with a 40X with a scope to compare ammo. They are all five shot groups at fifty also.

Lapua, Sk and Wolf are all the same company. To really get a comparison, you need to clean between the different types, then season the barrel with between 25-40 shots to let the lube do it's job. The other types may be "riding" on the laurels of the previous ammo. When you then buy a bunch of the ammo you thought shot well, it disappoints you. The one thing I noticed, is the tendency for for each type to shoot two groups in a group. I've always had this problem with the Lapua Company brand ammo. I like the Eley Company for more consistent round holes

That's all well and fine. Show me a 4 dollar a box eley that will shoot that well and I'll buy some. Show some any Eley instock and I might buy some anyway. Lapua owns SK Jadg and that is well known. Buy the way that makes it a Corperation with Lapua, and SK being thier own companies and Wolf is an indenpendant out side company contracting SK to make rimfire ammo for them. But Lapua also owns two seperate ammo plants so even if they were identical for load data and they are not there would be deference in the ammo just from location and machines. Hell Eley can't keep thier top dollar stuff to the same speed from lot to lot or machine to machine and theres 5 running now. The big plus with eley is they print true speed on the box insteed of a hoped for speed like everyone else. I Like ammo that goes were I point it and Eley's new extra driving band requires a rifle with a 16.5 twist for max accuracy. The older ritles don't shot it worth a damn most of the time. Donald

Eley is wining now because Lapua went off on some space trip with their high end ammo line and priced it to the moon. It also does not shoot well in barrels/chambers setup for Eley, which can be had cheaper for top level ammo. More people use Eley because it's cheaper and because more people use it Eley wins more. I don't like Lapua high end stuff either because it does not seem to have the lot to lot quality as Eley. But this may be because you can order Eley by machine and speed and that has alot to do with what seems to be better quality. Part of the better quality is the shooter gets to screen the ammo himself for what his rifle has liked in the past and that gives you an a better chance to find ammo your gun will shoot well. I have never ordered by machine or lot, but know that you can buy it that way. I've often wondered why Lapua doesn't market their ammo along similar lines. As I said, I've never been able to get Lapua, Wolf or SK to group at 50yrds. SK would do well at 50 feet indoors. The Eley Club, Club Extra [now called Team and cost more] and even the Remington Eley have always been consistent. I keep checking out other brands, but still revert back to Eley when I want to get serious. All my rifles are older rifles, 52's,40x's and a 1973 Anschutz 54. Maybe that is why they like Eley. I haven't had a problem with the new EPS or automatch style bullets, They group as well as the older stuff in my rifles.

I shot her again today and was able to get two .300 groups at 50 yards with Lapua Master L using the iron sights. And ocourse Lapua has stopped making master L so it doesn't matter how well it shoots. I shot Eley Sub-Sonics again and they will not group well in the E. They are scary in a Kimber 82G. I mean I would shoot them in a match tight group. I'll have to keep testing these in the Kimber as it's never preformed to the level it should until Tuesday and today with the Sub-Sonics. Every 22 is it's own world and every time I shoot one I learn something new. Donald

I agree, 22 target rifles are a world of their own. Putting 22's in the same hole is a challenge at any range. Shoting groups and hitting the 10 ring is even harder to do. I've been playing with these for several years now. Been getting more consistent and groups will be small once in a while. I've had to shoot left handed of late because of a cataract in the right eye that is getting worse very fast. I've lost 14 lines of vision on the eye chart over the last year and a half. Open sights are impossible to see and scope lenses look dirty to me. Left eye with a scope is manageable though. I'm getting better at left hand shooting s a result though.
