Cor-Bon .30 Carbine vs 2 inches of concrete

Was given a few rounds to compare with the USGI ball, and Winchester soft point. Fired into new, solid, 8 by 16 by 4 inch thick CMU foundation blocks from 25 yards. Cor-Bon penetrated slightly better than half way but did not break the block apart. The recovered spent round showed the typical mushroom with flower pedal design. The GI round penetrated better than half way and caused the block to crack in half but not completly break . The soft nose caused the block to shatter into 5 large pieces. (suprise!!!) The test was far less than scientific because I only had 4 rounds of the Cor-Bon. None of my local ammo dealers stock Cor-Bon .30 Carb. Nor do I have a camera. Based on my few rounds, I was not impressed with the Cor-Bon. What do you say Charlie 77. I still do not recommend using the Carbine on any game animal larger than a Virginia size whitetail but the Cor-Bon will sertainly open up a wound channel better than the 110 grain solid. Happy Birthday America. At the rate we're going it might be the last. Where is TJ and the boys when we need them the most?

on deer, and WAIT for a shot.

I used mine for daughter for deer hunting in Michigan, using Speer 100gr short jackets, she got first shot , I was second with .308.

A coworker used his in Wisconsin for deerdrives, as he could put a couple rounds into a running deer. (Not my idea of hunting with the Carbine)
A second co-worker used his from tree stand, took two deer (separate season )
@75yds & 25yd. Last was incoming and a decided downward shot.

Now on HD duty with butt-pouch loaaded with two 15rdrs and HP ammo.
Did smooth the feed ramp to minimize stuttering of softnosed ammo)

Recognize the LIMITATIONS and use appropriately.

"...USGI ball..." Not made for hunting. Milsurp ball is illegal for hunting in most places too. SP's are made for hunting. The Corbon is supposedly a solid copper bullet. They don't work like lead core bullets.
A Speer 110 grain HP with 14.5 grains of IMR4227 blows a hole the size of a grapefruit in a ground hog. Feeds with no fuss whatsoever. Never got a chance to use it on deer, before the carbine was declared evil, up here. Wouldn't think twice about using it under 100 yards though. Shot placement is essential, of course.
