Jungle Carbine wood colour

Here's another question similar to my one about the SMLE.

I've been busy this week and also bought another JC. I have seen light colout wood on them in the past but this one is also a light brown/yellow/honey colour. No pics yet.

What kind of wood could this be. Were JCs fitted with beech at all?

I have several JC rifles and they range from Malay returns to new and unissued rifles.

My old JC is mounted in walnut which has settled into a smooth, dark finish which looks different in European walmut.

Another has a light stock that has taken on a deep honey color and I would suspect it is beech, although the lack of outstanding wood figure makes me think it is more likely something closer a maple colored wood. Very even color and no figure to speak of.

The last example is a light blond of the same wood as the second mentioned. This one I would submit is absolutely unaltered by use or handling as the rifle is unissued. The finish is not as smooth as it is still too new to have been worn from use. But, it is a very nice piece of wood even though it is among the last of the JC's ever built. Again, the smooth even woodgrain makes me think of a maple stock. Clear, solid heartwood with no checking or color present.

Sounds like a nice collection of JCs you have. I don't know of anybody else with a large collection of JCs.

Seems like the same wood we are talking about. Mine could be beech but it doesn't exhibit the same kind of grain I've seen on other beech stocks.

In any case the forestock is going to have to come off and I am going to need to use a cutdown No.4 beech to replace it by the looks of it.
