EO Tech sight on 98 Mauser

Has anyone put an EO Tech Holosite on a 98 Mauser? I am thinking of having a gunsmith drill and tap the reciever ring and install an picatinny (sp?) rail to attach the Holosite to. I want to keep the ability to use stripper clips to load the rifle. The bolt doesn't match the action. I plan to use the rifle mostly for targets out to 300 to 400 yards/meters.

Use a scope. It fits better to the rifle and the EOTech is only good with the 3x power booster on this distances. Used this on a M4 A3 without the booster was not accurate enough the point coverd the target.

I brased a 1917 peep sight on the rear leaf on my son's 98. the center of the hole was level with the V-notch. It took a little Dremel tool work to shape the sight base so the just the round peep part of the sight fit. ( I closed the bolt on the 1917 with the rear sight flipped all the way back and snapped off the battle sight). It worked great he has no problem shooting pop-ups out to 500 yards and the meter graduation on the sight can be used.

The dot on the EOTech subtends about 1 MOA. At 400 yards thats 4". Add a bit for dot "flare", so targets 6" and under will more or less be covered. Ain't generally a problem unless your targets are made for "super tacticool" high magnification scopes. Biggest drama is deciding what distance to battle zero the sight and then learning Kentucky elevation since this sight isn't really made for rapid zero changes.
If you can live w/ a fixed zero and learn the rifle, hits to 400m should be altogether doable and fast!

I like placing the optic mount on the rear sight base for speed (scout rifle style), just don't use B-square mounts, they are xxxx'ing terrible!
