    too bad...

Many times M1icon shooters pondered why the M1 was never offered with the ability to accept the BAR 20-round magazine. The BAR and M1 magazine interchangeability feature was an obvious asset even then, and serious work was put into making the M1 able to accept and use BAR magazines. The effort failed partly due to the high bolt force required to strip off rounds from the BAR magazine, and also because it would have required a complete redesign of the M1 rifle receiver. Time and finances simply didn't permit yet another major M1 redesign, so the BAR magazine project was cancelled.

Plus every squad had a Bar Man. They would have been throwing 30.06 rounds all over the place.

After using 03's, the M1icon was a huge step up.

What about the T-20, they were ordered but not ever made cause the war ended. They used a modified BAR mag.

While I agree there would have been certain advantages to having a detachable magazine, and purely from a collector standpoint, there is just something about having one on a Garandicon that would not be right.

J.C's first rifle had a 20 round mag. The U.S. Military didn't want it.

I've often wondered whether a US infantryman under fire would have preferred 5 or 6 fully loaded 20rd mags or and endless supply of factory loaded 8rd enblocs ....

but it seems like a no brainer to me.

The ammo came along in bandoliers in enblocs so there was not real problem about loading. The rifle even cleared itself, so the issue wasn't a real one except from a civilian trying to re-think WWII. The enblocs and bandoliers were disposable, so there wasn't a major supply issue or need to fish rounds out of a common source or open crate of ammo and put it into a pouch.

The Germans were so under-equipped by comparison in the area of small arms. The K98icon was certainly equal to the task, but got shot off the field unless someone lugged an MG into the fray. Everyone feared those and with good reason. Even the Browning crews were under-gunned in a confrontation with a German MG-series machine gun. But, that's not the question here.
