Grooved handguard clip, question

Anyone know what manufacture is this grooved clip?

but WRA usually has the punch mark on the underside of the clip. If you see a punch mark its most likely WRA. If you don't maybe 50/50 WRA or Springfield. WRA generally had lots of milling marks but I suspect SA did have some as well. This does not look as rough as the very few WRA's I have seen.

I'm guessing WRA because it is rougher than most the SA's I have seen.

They were both fairly roughly machined so it could be either. As a small part, there are just darned few attributes to look at. I've got a guess at one particular feature but I don't know if the idea holds any water, and it could be nothing more than normal manufacturing variation (again).

Rule of thumb rough equals Winchester. But I must comment I worked in a machine shop as a very young man running a milling machine + many other machines. When I started my shift the guy before me was running scrap or rough parts totally out of tolerance. So when I would get there the first thing I did was sharpen cutters and re installed them, the parts would look so nice but when your running 100's of parts an hr. that dont last long the edge on the carbide would break down and again pull em out and re sharpen them. Now during a WAR time effort I would say production was job one and a priority to make the quota. All bets are off at that point anything goes. I would say it could be a Springfield on a bad day I have a 42 Winchester and the clip is much rougher than yours by alot. Hope this helps Jeff

Could be either one. Everyone thinks WRA had rough parts. Sure they did,but the roughest machining I've seen were not WRA parts.
