    1911 function / repair ??

I have a 1911 that the hammer will not stayed cocked in the full back position. It will stay half cocked. Is this an issue with the sear needing to be replaced?

If so who carries the part?

It could be the sear or the hammer or both. You will have to remove the parts and have them checked out by someone who knows the relationship between of those parts. Possibly, the sear spring is weak, this is a three fingered flat spring that runs ups the back of the frame. Again, you will need someone who knows his stuff.

I took it apart and the top edge of the sear is bad. It is rough and there feel like a burr on the edge. So now I need to find one. I guess while I am in ther I will replace the spring.

The sear gets beat up from not catching on the fullcock notch. You may still need a hammer as the notch may be worn also. Did the pistol work when you bought it? Has anyone attemted to do a "trigger job" to it? What brand of 45?

The pistol is a 1911 Colt, dated 1918 time frame. The hammer looks real good. Do you know where I can buy a sear? Is there any difference between a USGI part and a commerical one?

Not sure of what your problem is but if you fire it be prepared for a full auto discharge. Bob
