    SecNav Trophy Rifle

Several years ago whilst hanging around the Navy Van at the Nationals I had occasion to see a couple trophy rifles that the owners were intending to shoot in the Garandicon match. I remember thinking they should have looked better than they did. Which led me to believe they were simply taken out of the rack and sent to the awardee.
I just got mine and it looks brand new. I am very impressed with it. 4.3 mil with a Oct 1952 SA barrel. Haven't taken it apart yet or gauged it. Not a scratch or dent anywhere.
It came wrapped in vapor proof paper with a date of 1967 and one of those cardboard tubes in the barrel.
    This rifle is beautiful.

Did you buy it, or win it? What's the story?

I used the John Houseman method - I earned it.
I received it as a result of my scores for pistol and rifle at the FFC East Rifle and Pistol Matches this year. Second place, so it is 30-06.
Not a lot of reservists showed up to compete this year and of those that did the couple others that scored better than me were ineligible to receive the rifle.
I also made both rifle and pistol teams this year and was and am elibible to compete as a member of the Reserve Shooting Team at the interservice and nationals. I will be at the nationals.

I've got one of those also. It is an HRA 4.7 mil marked O-66 behind the rear sight. The barrel is an SA 11-53. Second place Trophy for pistol shooting at '97 All Navy match. The stock is SA/JLG marked ( whats left of it anyway)

    regards,
    Chief

Mine is similarly marked behind the rear sight with the electropenciled 0-66. I couldn't detect the presence of a cartoochie on the stock which as I said before is flawless.
Yours looks great except what is that red thing in the upper right hand part of the photo.

I did some work for the local Marine Corps league and they made me an Honorary member. The flag came with it along with a certificate. Besides it is a USMC rebuild after all! They also supplied the Navy flag!
    regards,
    Chief
edit: I had to look REAL hard to find the remnants of the cartouche, pretty faded but the stock is just a most gorgeous red.
