Photos of Q.H.M.C. Carbine early '43.

    Hey guys,

Traded for this carbine a bit over a year ago. Knew nothing about them at the time but trusted the dealers that I have been doing business with for ten years.

It's an early '43 Quality Hardware that is probably a restoration. That's ok. Can't imagine where you could find all of the parts in good and fine condition to assemble this carbine and at what price. Bought "War Baby" not long after I got it and did a data sheet on all parts except the small ones in the bolt.

Over fifty percent of the QHMC parts are correct for the date of manufacture and the rest are correct for later QHMC carbines. Rockola barrel is like new.

Shoots like a champ. Very accurate and works well.

Really only have a few questions. Is the rear sight a repro, is the sling correct and are the front band and swivel right?

Will dig out the data sheet if anybody has questions about specific parts.

Thanks for any comments and info.

Hope Ya'll don't mind lotsa' photos.

    Very nice!

To answer one of your questions - The sling is not authentic.

Can you get closer focused photos of your year sight? (Macro or 'flower' setting) - You might get better focused photos with outside lighting.

    Hey caf,

Been to Dallas many years ago and had a blast for a whole week.

    Thanks for your input.

Yea, handed the carbine to a local expert and gunsmith a few shows ago and he thought it was too long and maybe for a Reising MG. No sweat...when the deal was done Ricky, who is a Germanicon WWII firearms expert just threw it in. Wasn't a part of the trade. He is not fond of M1icon Carbines though his wife is.

"Expert" who handled the Carbine declared the rear sight authentic with objections from his buddies who called him Mister.

Markings are not what have seen in "Warbaby", they are a little offset.

Yes, nice bright sunlight in the backyard is a very favorable condition for good photos. Will try a few right now in the Peaceshak just for fun. Gettin' late. If I get any good photos will post tomorrow night.

    Sling

    Lancebear,

I've gotten fairly good with slings but I didn't need much help with the one that came on your carbine. In fact is was funny to me, as I haven't seen one like yours since the one that came installed on my first carbine.

It seems they stamped the bogus marking anyplace.

(Of course everything else on the sling was wrong as well - Seller told me it was 'vintage' but he didn't say what year! ;-)

    Hey cafdfw,

Glad you got a chuckle out of the sling thing. Still wonder about this piece. It's very well made and the tiny stampings are very fine. Another thing, the bottom piece on the front is brass, it was copper washed or plated and then parked. That can't be a cheap way to make a fake. Wonder if somebody found a bunch of original hardware years ago and put these together. I don't care, it's not about the sling.

Took your advice and did an outdoor shoot of the sight and the carbine with my spare S.A. Italianicon marked birch stock. This stock is real fine. Marking on the rear left is star over SSABo 66 underneath. Wish I could remember who I got it from, came with all metal and maybe the walnut RMC handguard for forty or fifty bucks. Carbine locks up real tight with this stock. Never messed with, has only a very few tiny dings, real nice patina.

By the way, do the front band and swivel look right? Think the band is supposed to have a QU stamp not just a U. Maybe it's an Underwood? From the data sheet...it's a type A variation 2.

Here are the photos. Lemme' know what ya' think.
