As far as RLO vs BLO it's a matter of choice. One big mistake made by many using BLO is using too many coats. It has to be thinned to really penetrate. When I dunk a batch in the tank...I thin it and warm it up for deep penetration. Too many coats equals a finish that looks to be varnished. Each stock is different as in how much natural oil it still retains. If using BLO you just have to know when enough is enough. Keeping the shine down and pores open is the object.
