    "Grey" No4 T

Had an interesting No4 T waved in front of me the other day.

It has a Mk1 scope that doesn't match and is severely "fogged", mismatching ring/mount numbers, wrong markings on the butt, dodgy home-modified, non-blackened rear sight, however:

It appears that the major metalwork is all kosher. The weird thing is that the receiver, including the pads, and barrel have been finished in a very tough "battleship grey" paint. The colour is very similar to the finish on Belgian issued FN-49s.

Anyone got any clues? Price is very inflated for what looks like a lash-up.

The same day I spotted another funny looking No4, allegedly a Pakistani "shortened and lightened"

Paki rebuild OK, all markings seem correct, proper "suncorite" tough-as-old-boots finish on the receiver, bore excellent, BUT:

At the muzzle end there are about 4 inches of barrel missing. There is, however, a P-14 front sight fitted, along with a flash hider that looks suspiciously like an after-market job for a Mini-14. This device is so poorly aligned that any bullet actually fired from this monster would clip the front inner ring of the flash hider. The black finish comes off a bit easily as well, as I discovered. Fore end and top handguard shortened as required, except badly.

AAAAAARGGGHHH!!! The owner wants a bomb for this thing. The stupid part is that it was probably more valuable in its un-butchered condition.
