The weave of the webbing is wrong for a WWII C-tip. I hate to say it, but its not real. And the trigger housing certainly appears to be a repark. The "grain" of the finish is too "coarse" for original finish.

This statement in the auction is incorrect.

"Note that letters on an import/reproduction (right) oiler are larger than a WWII original production oiler pictured on right. WWII original oilers have smaller letters."

Unfortunately, Jimb16 or correct. The sling is a complete reproduction that's been around for years.

It's been used, showing wear, but it's not authentic. The seller may think it's authentic(?). If he's honest he should offer a refund. $62 is a lot of money to pay for a sling worth $5 - $10.

You guys are good. I took a number of looks at the sling and I begin to see the weave differences. Thanks.

Good grief!!!! Sighhhhhh! Booo hoo hooo! I really feel bad..Thanks for the info. though, I was actually trying to get an indirect assessment from you guys in my What A Country post without revealing the listing on Ebay. Since nobody replied, I went ahead. The weave kind of looked suspect to me but it was the metal parts that I bought into. I guess most newbies pass thru this stage. I actually paid for it already, double whammy...I will try to return the item, since I suspect the seller also doesn't know its a fake because he also has repro slings and states it as such + he's rated as a number 1 seller on ebay. Other reasons why I believed him.

Here's the sling that he calls current production. (In other words repro.)

I know the secrets of telling a fake from legit is close to your hearts and should not be divulged in a public forum like this so 'EM HUMPERS don't get better at what they do and burn more newbies like me. But I hope I can count on you guys in the future, even if its in email or a simple LEGIT/FAKE would do. TIA from a newly born sucker!!!

Don't feel too bad about it Sgt. Sanders. I think most all of have been taken at one time or another.

Over the years, I've gotten burned several times. And we were all newbies at some point. It takes years and lots of experience to spot the differences. And some of the fakes are getting so good that we often have a hard time telling even if we have them in hand.
