With that She yelled, "Kalashnikov . . . Kalashnikov" and then ran upstairs!

~ With that She yelled, "Kalashnikov . . . Kalashnikov" and then ran upstairs!

Posted this over on another gun forum board tonight, but I might go over there and delete it. Figure that the higher quality Joustericon people might enjoy this story. Have been married to this woman for a dozen years now and this was a total new thing.

As the story goes, a couple of days ago I acquired an AKM 7.62X39 rifle in a private deal from an old Jouster Board pal. Was looking for something interesting in a semi-auto that could also be handled by my wife if needed. An AK-47 seemed to fit the bill. She is of Korean ethnicity and though standing 5' 7" tall, an AKM rifle in my crude round-eye mind was probably a proper weapon to suit the female Asian frame.

The rifle is pretty cool being an AC series Egyptian Maadi AKM from the early 1990s built up on an Ohio Ordinance / ITM receiver. Gawd only knows what ever happened to the original Cairo made Maadi receiver? Who ever handled the restoration on this Kalashnikov did a nice job. Aside for not being beat and scratched up, this Russianicon pattern AKM looks as if came right out of the movie "Red Dawn".

Anyway, my wife had just returned from one of her Bible Thumper / Apocalyptic / Survivalist / Patron Saint of the Month Church group meetings. She came downstairs to tell me how the Korean-Americans at the gathering, with many coming out from the New York City area, were all making plans for stocking up food, supplies and "protective devices". They're buying up real estate as places of retreat in rural Pennsylvania away from the larger urban regions. Nearly all of these people own cash heavy businesses and they see what's happened on the ground. We all believe that by this coming fall the economy could very well be in full blown depression. This they feel would cause civil unrest and social upheaval. Anyway, within the last few weeks, me, with a small stash of guns, canned goods and pre-electronic era diesel powered automobiles ain't such a weirdo after all. Told you so!!!!

Figured then . . . that it would be the ideal time to show my Pusan Peninsula girl the newest addition to the Forward Firebase Pocono small arms locker. First handed over a 30-round magazine and with pride, then showed her the Maadi ARM rifle.

With that she popped out of that wing back chair as if there was a railroad spike sticking through. You'd think that I had shoved a steel and wood crucifix into the face of a vampire. Fear came across her face as she put up hands and started shouting while turning away "Kalashnikov . . . Kalashnikov" . . "gun of the enemy". I could not believe what was happening! The woman was halfway across the room when she said . . . "As children we are taught in school to run and hide if we see a man or soldier with a Kalashnikov gun" "It is the weapon of the North Koreans who are our sworn enemy". She was in fact terrified of the Kalashnikov rifle.

Later she explained how the children from a young age in South Korea are shown movies and still pictures of murderous thug commie bad guys who carry the Kalashnikov. As it turns out, my sweet Korean babe, as she explained it, can not even look at an AK-47 without it causing involuntary distress. Suppose that this stuff is drummed into those little kids.

She very much likes the M1icon Garand calling it the gun of the heroes. I dunno, will probably end up getting her an M1 Carbine or an AR-15 Shorty . . . Then too, maybe a good little mini-30 or 14? In the meantime, I'm going to have to keep the Maadi ARM out of sight.

Posted a picture below of the newly acquired evil Kalashnikov rifle.

    Capt Q,

Sell that "Commie child killer" and get your wife a M1icon Carbine. In addition to being an ideal rifle for small statured women, there is another huge advantage to this platform; you can cast your own bullets for it, which only adds to your self sufficiency.

    Don

You cast for the AK as well. I have 3 bullets I have cast for me. Two in the 147 grain range and the other in the 123 range. and all threee shoot just fine.
Run a short mag of jacketed bullets through after every range session and I have no problem with barrewl leading. Clean the gas tube and piston every couple times and enjoy.

I vote for the M1 carbine.

I vote for the M1 carbine, even if ammo is scarce right now. Heck, I've only got 10 of 'em and want even more. My 5'-5" wife even likes the M1C and she's not a gun nut. Second choice would be the Mini-14. Or a Garand. Or an M1Aicon. Notice a pattern here?
