Carbine barrel?

I was looking at an Inland with a serial number in the 288,000 range, at a local auction house. My biggest concern is the barrel has no manufacturer name, and no date. It may have a Winchester W with a P just below the front sight. It concerns me as the barrel and barrel band look pretty new compared to the rest of the rifle.

I also read somewhere that the barrel should have lathe marks, this one does not, and is pretty smooth.

Is this legitimate?

A proper barrel would be Inland marked and dated. It sounds like it's been rebuilt in the past as have the vast majority of carbines. Not all carbine barrels had lath makings that really stood out. Pictures of the barrel and any markings on it would help to ID it.

Well, I watched it sell tonight at the auction. It sold for $875. Sorry, I didn't have an opportunity for pictures. Seemed high enough to me.
