Sightcoverknobs pictures by AndrewG1957 - Photobucket
On a 8-41 SA M1..sight cover is the same as on my 1-42..but the number? 1-42 has small "v" instead? Seen before?

marked rear sight covers
When SA discontinued marking the drawing number on the 1940 "flat" rear sight cover, they started using a small letter/number or symbol near the front edge, this continued for a short time into the indented rear sight cover.
There were two articles in the GCA Journal about these cover markings.
Winchester "flat" rear sight covers do not have this marking

Because of the position of the "3" on the cover, I would guess that it was stamped while assembled to the rifle. That position is about the only place that a stamp could be used on an assembled cover.
I'm guessing.
