Where can I check mag cutoffs?
Hi, is there anywhere I can see images of various cut offs to know what is correct for my rifle? Its the old no1mk6 again I afraid, and I've been after a no hole mag cut off, would it be the same silhouette as a no1mk3, or is there a special one for no4 actions? thanks R

Mag cut-offs for the SMLE Mark VI were made from a single piece of tin-plate bent into shape. The thickened part to take the fixing screw was welded on. I have a drawing dated 1928, which I am presuming is the beast. It did not have a tooling hole, just like the one for the Mark V.
Cut-offs for the first No4s were also tin-plate, 14 SWG (.080-in) but they were not thickened to take the cut-off screw. The slot in the receiver was a straight forward slit. Features were pressed into the plate which had a set to provide the interference in the slot.
The cut-off screw was unique to the No4, having a 4BA thread.

thanks gents, phew, thats one real hens teeth by the sound of it. I'd bet the cut off I have my eye on is a mkV type, I think that'll do decently until a miracle happens... cheers and thanks R
