    IIRC , the first major contact between US Marines and Imperial Marines was on Wake Island.
    The survival rate of the Americans who surrended on Wake ( and Allied units in the Philppines ) was higher than prisoners taken by either side during the Hitler/Stalin mess , at least during the first years...

    I do not know. That was what the photographer listed it as. You probably are right!
