I found this in a pawn shop last week, coming home from, of all things, a visit to the dentist! At $125 it just had to join my N0.5 and No.4 Enfields.
A couple of questions for the experts;
The butt stock is obviously non-original, I guess it is Beech whilst the rest of the wood is Walnut. There are two markings as shown, as well as an 'S' (for short) that is not shown. Could this be a later dated and possibly No.4 butt stock?
All the S/Ns are matching, although the one on the nose piece is stamped over a different number. Would this be normal during a FTR?
Finally, regarding the date stamp (1918) the '8' is stamped over a '7'. Any suggestion as to why this may be?
I took it to the range last week and it works fine, though it shoots low. I will try to rectify that.
BTW, this is my first attempt at posting pictures!
Thanks in advance for any help.
