Bought Mark 1 W/Original barrel - Value?
I bought a 1903 Mark 1 recently Serial number 114XXXX with the barrel dated 12-19 The barrel is in excellent condition very clean, shinny, with very nice sharp rifling W/little to no muzzle or throat wear) . The stock is a WWI W/grasping groves and it has a SA GAW cartouche. The gun is in original military configuration, and has had the Mark 1 parts changed out (cut-off, trigger, sear, etc.) with later WWII era parts, (still trying to figure out the bolt) The gun is in excellent condition overall and appears to have the original finish on the barrel receiver. I paid $600.00 for it - how'd I do?

Your barrel date jibes with the serial #, but your stock inspector stamp suggests a rebuild. George A. Woody (G.A.W.) was at Springfield much later than when your rifle was produced (1943-44). Either: (1) your rifle needed only some smaller pieces during a rebuild, OR (2) you lucked out and a correctly-dated barrel was replaced on your rifle along with some smaller pieces. Either way if the barrel is in the shape you describe it is, you have a nice matching barreled receiver suitable for shooting or wall-hanging. "Original Barrel" it is, until someone can prove otherwise! I would have jumped at it for $600. Now, let's hear what the experts have to say....

Since all he "experts" are probably at work, that leaves us "students" of the '03!
I'd say you paid a fair price. Mark Is with original barrels aren't that hard to find, although the GAW stock a nice touch.

Sounds OK to me. Check the bolt for a telltale "R" stamp. Good luck.

Here is what the bolt has on it
Numeral 3 on the top of the bolt handle. R underneath the bolt handle . 24 (in a box) and C in a semicircle n the back. Is this good or bad? There is also a 7 in a box and an R on the rear portion that the safety is attached to.

The olt is a replacement by Remington in d War II. It is "good" that it should be good to shoot with; "bad" in that it is not original/correct. Sounds like a nice shooter, though.
