M1903 Telescopic Rifle Of 1917 Base Mounts

Hi: I have searched almost everywhere for the height dimensions of the front and rear Scope Base Mounts for a Winchester A5 scope as used on a 1903 rifle of 1917 or an M1922 M1icon. I understand that the Type of base is Unertl but the books I have state the Front is .3" in height and Rear is .2" height.
I can not believe that these dimensions are complete. IE. .2031"/.375"?? THANK YOU.

I don't think so. John Unertl did not come to the US until 1928. He worked for Fecker until 1936 when he started Unertl Optical. Even after that he continued to use Fecker or Lyman mounts until he started manufacturing his own.

The Winchester A5 would have been mounted on either winchester or (I think) Mann Niedner mounts.

The "O" and "E" bases were used on the USMC M1903A1 with 8X Unertl Scope made during WW2.

I wish i could help with the dimensions. I can ony suggest you try Jim Tarletonicon.

    Regards,

I have the dimensions. I assume you are referring to the A5 mounted with the rear base on the front receiver ring. There is a set of drawings of the Marine Mount (Winchester) in Brophy, but they are not exactly the same as my Niedner's. Email me and I will send them to you tonight. I am at work at the moment.

If you are referring to the Winchester 1918 Sniper, it had its rear base mounted on the RSFB and is a totally different breed of cat.

Jim Gaynor is dead on correct, as usual. They are NOT Unertls, they are Mann-Niedners.

Jim; Thank you for your input. Yes, I refer to the Win A5 scope with rear base mounted on the receiver ring. I do note Brophy pictures a rear mount on the rear sight base. I assume this is very early mounting with Win commercial mounts. Will send "private Message" with E-mail address as requested. RW
