    1861 Springfield

    Were the 1861 rifled muskets serial numbered, and if so, where would the numbers be found? The only marks I can find on mine are the eagle, U.S. Springfield, and 1861 on the side plate.

    Nope, no S/N until the trapdoors, due to the separate receiver, I reckon. (1866 conversions w/o receiver don't have 'em, "new" made 1868's do!)
