My new "pawn shop special" No.5 carbine!

Hi all! I'm a newb here, but I was surprised to find out that I'm actually a registered member! Guess I join too many forums....

Anyway, I just scored this No.5 MK1 Jungle Carbine in a pawn shop for $150, thought I'd post up some photos to see what y'all think of it. Bubba took off the rear sight and put on a scope, but otherwise it appears to be the real deal and in great shape.

I think it was a helluva score, myself. Have yet to shoot it, just got it yesterday. Scored some ammo today.

Nice rifle, good honest wear. I would dump the sight and mount and get yourself the correct 800 yard peep.

You had good luck finding one not all cut up.
I like it, mine also has a metal cap on the forend. Your screw heads are in great shape, they have not been distroyed by garage screw drivers, the stock does not look like it has been sanded. You could order all the rear sight parts from S.S. and it would be complete.

I paid more for mine two years ago, sad to say.

The magazines used to be numbered to the gun also. The front band screw is a phillips and should be a slot. Peter Laidler or one of his fellows can probably set you up with the screw and the 800 yard ladder and the small parts to get it to spec.

There is more than $150 worth of parts on that rifle. To bad for the d&t though.
#5 rifles can be a lot of fun. If you bought it as a shooter and plan to hunt with it, leave it as is and have fun. Spending any more money on it wouldn't be fiscally responsible. It's in very nice shape but no longer a collector. The parts, as mentioned above would be of value to someone, I'm sure but the fact that everything is matching is a plus for you. Get a couple of good coats of linseed oil on that stock, it looks like it's pretty dry.

Nope, not gonna part it out. I bought it as a shooter, and another cool gun for my toy box. Yeah, I dig the "collector" value of it, but I'm not really a "collector" in the sense that most of you are, I'm more of a "gatherer". I don't require 100% correctness in things, those three holes won't bother me any. My M1 doesn't have a "correct" stock on it either (gasp!)

If it shoots good with this scope on it, I might just leave it there for jug-busting. But I'm still going to hunt for a replacement 800m rear sight, and the correct screw, might have to replace the barrel band too if the threads are wasted. I'll also look for a correct sling. A bayo would be nice, too.

Does anybody see any damage to the sight-mounting parts here? Does it look like I can put a sight on easily, if I can find a correct one?

The sight is in yards, not meters. It is an 800 yard sight.
