Carbine Case/Cover Query

Good morning guys ...question for the day is....i have in my collection a heavy duty canvas zipper cover definatley WW2 ? vintage its stencilled markings are

PAULIN,CARBINE CAL .30

G163-56-83357 RRA

any ideas what this cover was for or its use

I think its vehicular...but is it WW2 even.

Hi Stonewall...i must get some pics of all on here......this cover is like a standard carbine carrying case but of heavier lightly waxy canvas and leather tabbed construction.....it has NO sling for over the shoulder carrying and a heavy Talon zip to close.
It totally encloses the weapon like the carrying case.

Does RRA denote Red River Arsenal ? and the G163 ...refer to the M18 Hellcat ?

Yes RRA was Red River Arsenal. Cases made for armored vehicles look nothing like the Quartermaster Corp cases made for soldiers. Most have no straps.

I can look up G163 and see if it is the M18.

Bill hi how are you sir......FYI the G163 is indeed the M18 Hellcat...so they had canvas cases for the M18 which would stack up as it had an open turret so the Commander and Loaders carbines were covered i take it in their stowage posistions.

Morning folks. Mr. Limey, I also have a case as you described. I bought from a carbine club member back in May 2002, and still have the packaging it came in. I'll pull it out later today (after work) and let you know what is on the wrapping. The wording and numbering that you mentioned is on the outside of the carbine case. The seller said he bought a few form a Greek gent, and he (seller) believes they are Korean made (maybe during the Korean War Era). I have no clue. Anywho, I'll get back to you folks re package markings and such. Sorry no pictures, as I don't have a digital camera yet.

Ordnance made weapon covers for many Armored Vehicles. I have seen two different carbine, two different Thompson, and one M3 SGM cover.

Morning. Although a picture would be easier, I hope my description will help out. There is a carboard tag attached to the twine of the packaging (of the carbine carrier), and has the following:
