I don't know about that particular pistol, but I've seen an Inglis that was worth more.
I had no idea that the CWM was in the appraisal business.

Thumbs down WW2 Inglis High Power

    You mean this one?

    No pics....

I don't even respond to ads like this without at least ONE pic to get a sense of whether the seller is "smoking something", or not....

Plus, no Inglis Browing (or any revolver/pistol), regardlss of pedigree, is worth $6,000, particularly when a hand gun ban in Canadaicon is looming on the horizon within the next 3-4 years. Just my opinion.

    Seller says:

Hey gunnutz, thanks for the help via Pm's. I will sell this all orgional pistol for $5000 shipped. Its an Inglis Hi-Power 9mm Serial #D1. Was built in 1945, and was given to the security guard of the Inglis Plant. This pistol was featured in Clive Law's, "Inglis Diamond - The Canadian High Power Pistol". This pistol has been appraised by the Canadian War Museum for $6000. Any of you serious collectors out there, please let me know what you think, PM me with an email and I can get pics or more info in short order, cheers.

Oh, I dunno Badger, I sent you photos of an inglis I think is easily worth $6000. Worst case, if the ban ever comes, you'd have no trouble exporting it for big $ sale in the USAicon...

Well, you could be right, but I suspect the same thing that happened to the "auto" collectors will happen to the hand gun folks.... rapid depreciation of their asset right before the eyes over night.

Export sale to the U.S.? Hmmmm... maybe, but a sale of a restricted firearm and all the paperwork to get it out of the registry might be a nightmare, assuming you could get someone from the U.S. to take the risk up front and pay you. They also probably realize thay have you over a barrel with a distress sale and low ball what they'd be willing to pay you for a piece that had to get out of the country.

Although, some form of escrow service might work for payment. Hey... a business opporunity ...

    Regards,
    Badger

This pistol is shown in Clive Law's "Inglis Diamond" book, on page 109. It is a no1 type pistol, with the tangent rear sight.

A few other special Inglis were sold by a local collector through Bud Haynes a few years ago. One of them was the in the white polished 9T Inglis shown on page 131 of the same book. It fetched $4000 (approx) if memory serves. Another of the same collector's pistols was, I believe, EX8,, or else a manderin marked unserialised, ( I am not sure which but I could find out) sold for around $3400 if I recall. Both of these would have been subject to Bud Haynes 10% buyers fee and GST, so add another 17%.

I guess if a guy has money to spare, and wants a gun that he can brag about, then somewhere in these ballparks would be reasonable. I would suggest that the war museums estimate would be more for a tax receipt (fiction money) than cash value. With minty Inglis no2s in the $900 to $1200 range, one could expect to go a bit higher for a one of a kind.

Well, if you sell a valuable inglis into the Us, you wouldn't sell directly to an individual. You'd do it through an auction house or top-shelf dealer and basically would probably only get paid once the gun sold. I'll bet you could arrange something through our good friend in Nova Scotia with a huge presence in the US...

I doubt you'd have much other choice given that most private sale guys won't have an FFL01 and the ability to import.

Other than the ones on Joe Salter's site, the only "special" serialed Inglis HP I've seen was an EX2x marked one which was RTOed (returned to owner) at $1400. Of course that was @5 years ago.

From the provinance of D1, I think it wouldn't realistically be out of line to sell for @$3000 today. Auction fever might get you a bit more.

The CWM "appraisal" is as Stenny says, "for tax purposes" and not a realistic appraisal.

Anytime you have a tax receipt appraisal, you have to figure out 45% of that, because that is what you will get for it. 45% of 6000 is pretty close to $3K.

As long as a firearm is on the curio list in the US, export to there isn't that big a deal. Do it through Leroy's in Montana, and he can forward it from there. I used to deal with Carl Tong, who had Leroys do the paperwork.....no problem and only $75 a gun.

It will be a shame though, when Canadian history like the Inglis must be exported from Canadaicon.
