Speaking of "Burned in", I recall going to a gun show 15 years ago and the guy was selling Garands with what looked like burned cartouches. Since I used to use those wood-burning pencils and tools in the '50s and '60s, I kinda knew the look. They were pretty obvious to me, but I guess they worked with some folks.

But the burned look can be very deceiving if done properly, with some additional burnishing...

The top letters are too close together, the A is too wide, can't even see the crossbar for the A, the top letters don't align right over the H, the lower letters are spaced too far apart, the box is either too wide or the letters too small, the middle of the S is too flattened.
That ord wheel didn't look that bad to me though, except the knobs on the left cannon.

Remember those cartoons that would be placed side by side and there would be slight differences between them? You had to relax your eyes and let your brain process the differences...

I'm working on a computer method of doing the same thing. May be fruitful. It's called image registration, and it can handle even rotated/stretched/deformed image comparisons.

I'll let y'all know if i come up with anything...

On to #8,,,, did you guess FAKE,, you are right. This is also a fake. Can you spot the differences on this one? Rick B

This one has so many differences compared next to the real one maybe it's easier to say what's right about it. They didn't misspell WRA and GHD.

#9 is also a Fake. I know ,, you are wondering if any are real by this point but if you look back you will have that answer on your own"hint hint". Well lets see if you can find what is wrong on this one. Rick B

M is too wide limiting the space between it and the E. S is too skinny. Cross on the A is too high. The right tail of the A is in the center of the F.

The cannon mounts are in the middle not towards the other cannon. The angle of the cross is not right which causes the cannon ball to not sit right and makes it too small. The cannon muzzles are too narrow. And, assuming the photos are to scale, the CC overall is too small.

The c is also too wide and maybe a little too tall, and isn't centered under the A. And the shape of the S, aside from being too skinny like Bill said, isn't angled right in the middle.
