Looks like romanian is still around, and Yugoicon seems to be also. I have bad experiences with Turk though.

I don't believe the Romanian was ever "officially" imported into Canadaicon. That said, you may find it at gunshows, particularly in southern Ontario border towns. I managed to get a couple cases of it a few years ago, who knows how it found it's way to northern Alberta.

The last time I was in Milarm in Edmonton, they had Yugoicon '50's ball for $40/90 rounds. It's the only stuff I've seen at retail in a long time.

Contact Weimajack (CGN member). He's got a nice one I just returned to him over the week end. He had sent it to me for examination. I was curious since he said his was "personally handpicked". It turn out mine, also hand picked, was at slight bit nicer to my liking, although it has a small initiating crack near front of stock. I decided to keep mine to save the hassle of reselling it.

Both these rifles, his and mine, are Yugoicon M48 "BO" = without markings. His was still in cosmolineicon, unfired (same as mine was when I bought from Marstar 18 months ago). The stock on his has a lighter color (birch?) than mine while mine is dark brown (walnut). Both stocks are beautiful, no handling marks. The manufacture is very nice, made around 1954 with war tooling left behind. Bolt assembly is impeccable and mine groups very well, around 1.5 inches at 100m open sight (my handloads). He's asking 479 + tax & shippping, same as I paid. If you want to get a "new" Mauser in great condition, this is it, no question, unless you get very lucky at some gun show.

If you're looking for something with a little more history, P&S Militaria in Sherbrooke, QC still had recently some very nice Kar98 Norwegianicon capture, re barreled in .30-06, Nazi markings and all. I hand picked P&S's two nicest ones last summer. Paid around 800$ with taxes. I would sell one, a 1939 "243" (Mauser AG Borsigwalde) if you're interested. Can send you some pictures. For a "seasoned" Kar98, these are in remarkable condition (P&S writes "very good"), nothing like the electro-penciled Russianicon captures.

Good luck in your quest. Remember: the Kar98kicon is The best engineered and safest military bolt action rifle ever made, period. "Function dictates the form" in all it's splendor. When the sights are aligned, they form a perfect W (V at rear, inverse V at front), any misalignment is easy to distinguish. I find the sights on my Czeck early vz 24 shytty compared to the Yugo and German Mausers I my collection. Cheers!
