Hello all! Adopted a war baby yesterday

I was given a carbine by my dad yesterday and I'll be the first to admit I don't know Jack about them. I've been in the Military for 23 yrs so I know about modern weapons but this lil' carbine looks like my M14icon in operation so I was able to field strip it to get the info off it.

Sounds like a fine example of a Bavarian Carbine...

Hi, congrats to the rifle, the marking LGKNÖ tells you what you have. It is an Austrian one, the marking means "Landesgendarmerie Kommando Niederösterreich" . Pics were great. Enjoy it.

Thanks for the replies. I went to the CMPicon site and saw it's an Austrian return gun. All the carbines I've seen at gun shows were the gray/green park and I thought the color was odd. Is it normal that the last 4 of the serial no. is stamped all over the place? I thought they just put the Mfg. stamp on the wood and other other parts. The wood has no "P" or inspection stamps but has the serial no. A little BLOicon on the stock is ok? Got a scuff in the finish.Hmmmm. Just never seen Uncle Sam rebuild anything and keep the numbers matching.
I've been to the CMP site before when I got a Mint M44 US property .22 Mossberg when they were cheep and plentiful. Shoulda' bought a truck load!Gott'a love them!
Sorry for all the Q's, hope to have some A's soon.
Will try to post pics when I find my camera. It's a sharp looking rifle.

FTD1165 & Gunner thanks! Like a dummy I posted the last reply before following that link. Yep, it has a Knox. Tn stamp! Lower Aus. issue. Black oxide finish correct, varnished stock. Gonna' wipe it down with linspeed to get rid of a few scuffs. Is this a "rare bird" or is it less wanted because it's an imported rifle? Dad always found one off guns and I guess this is. It's a family gun(passed down to me).
It's weird,I've been to Lower Austriaicon. Salzburg. Loved it! Stationed in Germanyicon twice and grew up in Tn. near Knoxville! 6 degrees of seperation!!!!! creepy

Don't use linspeed!!!! Use raw linseed oilicon (available at your local art supply store in small bottles) The Austrians/Germans stamped the numbers on. It was not USGI practice to do so.

Yea, they are some serial number stamp'n fools!
The stock is finished in varnish from the Austrian rebuild so Linspeed should fill in any chip, scuff and bring a nice glow back to the stock varnish finish. Linspeed is BLOicon on steriods!
