8mm Mauser IS A Great Moose Hunting Round
In the 1970s I carried a .dot WWII issue laminated stock Mauser 98 with stamped floorplate that I had acquired for $22.00. It was a very nice carry gun for moose hunting; as I recall the hunting ammunition was Norma with 198 grain bullets. With stripper clips it was easy to load at -20 Celsius in the December moose hunt. Also used cast bullet loads based on 32 Special mould with .323 cast bullets for the "occasional partridge" along the moose track trails.
For me thats what these Mauser 98s are for versus keep them pristine in a cabinet for the eventual estate sale with the comment, "He/she never ever shot this rifle"..
