    H&R Garand question

I recently picked up a H&R Garand at the local gun show from an individual. It is in the 4724xxx serial number range. The rifle is pristine except the buttplate is rather dinged up. The stock is fresh, with a crisp eagle marking. Bore is like new. All parts appear to be evenly worn, and showing very little wear. Finish on most parts varies a bit from part to part, suggesting that it might not be a repark. Everything is H&R except the op rod, which is Springfield. Would it be possible that this is the original op rod? I have no idea if parts were swapped between mfrs. like in M1icon carbines. Was $650 a fair price?

$650 is cheap for any nice Garandicon.

    Where are the pics???

IMHO, your 4.72 did not come with a SA op rod. The correct HRA one should not be hard to find, try a trade ad here and on CMPicon.

    Good Luck!

The OP Rod should be marked "6535382 HRA" for your rifle.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I'll start shopping for that oprod. I'll post pics when I can borrow a better camera. Mine won't focus up close enough.

Hello, below I have posted the website where I purchased my HRA operating rod. It takes a couple of weeks to receive it but it was in great condition. I bought my HRA M1icon service grade from the CMPicon south store last year and all it lacked was the operating rod and correct stock. I have also attached pics below so you can see the difference between a Springfield stock and an HRA stock. The HRA will have more area behind the receiver.

This is the website to purchase an operating rod
Garand M1 various parts and stocks made available by Dupage Trading Company.

Picture on the left is a Springfield, picture on right is an HRA (notice how much more area behind the receiver.
