M1 Carbine Mag Pouches
Okay, another noobie question: ( sorry if this has been answered earlier)
I seem to find two types of 15 round mag pouches. One has the large rear opening with a single snap. This seems to be the one that fits over the butt stock. The other type have what seems to be two belt loops.
My question(s) is this:
One the butt stock version, what is the snap for? And what was the original belt used for this pouch? On the two belt loop version, what belt is used?
I've been trying to find pictures of pouches on belts but haven't found any yet.
Thanks for your response.

The one people are calling a stock pouch was really made to attach to a belt. That is the reason for the snap. Five pouches to a belt. It just happens to go over the stock as well, where as the later ones have the belt straps only.
Big cost difference. First type NOS $30-35, second type NOS $10-15

So they both use the same belt? If so, which belt would that be?
Thanks!

I am guessing the standard model 1936? pistol belt. Just a guess.

The snap on the back of the Pocket, Magazine, Model of 1942 (aka type I magazine pouch) was designed to fit the SINGLE mating snap on the third version of the M1912 Pistol Belt, the M1918 Cartridge Belt, and the later M1936 Pistol Belt.

What about the type 2 pouch, with the two loops? Is this pouch for the same belt or some other?
Sorry for keep asking the same question, but I just want to get it right.
And I'm still looking for pictures of these on a belt.

The original design may have been for the M1912 Pistol Belt, the M1918 Cartridge Belt, or the later M1936 Pistol Belt.
But there is another belt that has snaps that fits five pouches, I don't know the model number. I know because I wore one in Viet Nam.

M1961 Belt for the M14 magazine pouches. Type I carbine mag pouches fit as well as early versions of the .45 mag pouches but it came about 20 years after the carbine mag pouches did.

M1961 Belt, thanks Brian.
I brought home a few items from Viet Nam, some was part of my web gear. I have put on NOS pouches and mint mags, but the belt is what I wore.
The pouches are mounted on snaps, with one snap not visable. It is on the inside as the belt was adjusted to fit my waist. It has 12 snaps and you can easily position 5 pouches on it.
After a few hours searching in the garage I found these.
