Pakistani No. 5 Sorta Jungle Carbines

I came across some of the worst looking Jungle Carbine clones the other day at a gunshow near me. These were obviously No. 4 rifles, cut down very badly, with new flash hiders and a set of rear sights that could only be described as homemade. No two were alike, each bearing only the crudely scribed "No. 5" in place of the original (whatever they may have been?) markings.

When queried about their origin, the answer came back "Pakistan, of course." I wasn't aware the Pakistanis were in the ersatz Jungle Carbine business. Has anyone run across these or are they new to the market? And, if you know, who imported these scrap metal wonders? Kinda reminds me of something Century would sell into the market, but I don't want to accuse them prematurely.

P.S. These were not real Carbines nor did the seller try to pass them off as such. These made the Malays of a few years ago look like really prime stuff.

Also known as Dhara or Khyber Pass specials. The "gunsmiths" there make everything, especially if they think they will get money for it. Quality ranges from very good to not safe under any circumstances.
