Replacement barrel for WWII M-1 Carbine

Where is a good source to find replacement barrels for a WWII carbine? A friend has one with a cracked gas cylinder and we need to find a replacement. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Pickin's are slim out there.

No one is sitting on a pile of new USGI barrels. If you are in a hurry, then go for a new commercial barrel; I think Fulton Armory still has them. You might find a Springfield Armory USGI replacement barrel. Avoid Herlo USGI replacement barrels (they were rejected by Ordnance). Also avoid those that have had a couple of inches chopped off the front, or with some strange "flash hider" on them. Most USGI "take offs" were taken off because of some problem; be careful, & get either detailed specs or return privileges.

    Chopped Barrels

Fulton is currently out of the commercial replacement barrels but, they have some de-mills. These barrels have been chopped off right behind the front sight and come with no parts (sight, piston, nut).
I ordered one and was able to recover an "honest" 16.25". I then made a false muzzle and brazed that on the end. I then machined it to the correct profile and length for my carbine. I must admit that I have yet to finish headspacing and test firing it but, confidence is high. Understand that these are brand new, never been fired barrels. They will need to be properly installed and headspaced before use. They (Fulton)advertise them as Winchesters and the one I received was.
There are other de-mills out there and I beleive that is what the ones on Gunbroker with FAL flash suppressors are made from. Reason being is that some of those are sheared very short.

Bottom line is that I feel confident that my "new" barrel will shoot for many years to come and my total cost???? $24.95 + shipping.

I'm seeing some pretty pricey barrels on GB, even import marked ones.
Many have been cut down with the flash hiders installed.
    Those scare me.
A few of the barreled receivers are just about as cheap as buying seperate barrels.
I see Eddy has what he believes to be a Springfield barrel up for auction,

    Good luck in your search,
