Jeff,

I got the news over the Tribes network Friday. Golden Corral is doing the same, except all you can eat. I have the day off, I might do them both!

Wonder if they have roast suckling pig?

Here is a list of several places doing something for vets. Not all are on Veterans Day.
Applebees just started this last year. I was not impressed with the 3 or 4 items you had to choose from, but since it's free I'll probably go again? They also charge for any drink you get. Afternoon was a short wait, went to the other one for the evening meal to see if it was any better - it wasn't - line was 30+ min.
Golden Cotral is all inclusive and all you can eat - 100% better deal, but be prepared to stand in line for 30-40 min.

•Applebees: All veterans and active duty military personnel with proof of current or former military service are invited to eat free at Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar Restaurants this Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009. Proof of service includes: U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement, Veterans Organization Card, photograph in uniform or wearing uniform.

•Golden Corral: Military Appreciation Dinner will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009, from 5 to 9 pm in all Golden Corral restaurants nationwide. Any person who has served in the US Military (retirees, veterans, active duty, National Guard or Reserves) will receive a FREE dinner - No identification is required for the service member.

McCormick and Schmick's: Sunday, November 8, 2009 celebrate with a Complimentary entree from a special menu at the Appreciation Event which is offered at participating restaurants (I believe reservations are required). This event is for veterans who served in the active military, naval or air service. In order to serve as many veterans as possible, they will not be able to seat parties of larger than 6 guests. Present proper identification to your server. See website for details.

•Ponderosa: On Monday, November 9th from 11am - 9pm, all VETERANS & ACTIVE MILITARY Personnel will receive a FREE BUFFET with BEVERAGE at participating locations.

•Uno Chicago Grill: This Veteran's Day, 11/11, Uno invites all members of the military both veterans and active duty to join them for a FREE entree or individual pizza (with and entree or pizza purchase of equal or greater value). No Coupon necessary, just show up in uniform or with a picture of you in uniform, or your military or veteran's ID.

Well, I went to AppleBeez al right. The place was full. I sat at the bar with some guys who had their service in the '50s. There was a man at the bar in full tartan, kilt and all, Black Watch or maybe Mckenzie. I asked the servers if he was a regular, they said he was.

I had the hamburger. It was pretty good. I had my DD214 with me, but they weren't asking for ID or anything. Some bikers came in and took a table I guess they were vets too. or maybe their old ladies were.

Well, I might go to Golden Corral on Monday. All you can eat! Lets see who shows up.

I didn't know about it and took my grandson there, we went early and got seated quick. They asked me if I was a Vet which took me off guard at first but I showed them my service connected DAV card so the little guy and I ate for free. By the time we left the place was full and the staff are in a panic. A guy who looked twice my age stopped at my table because he had seen my flash my DAV card and he thannked me for serving. He was wearing a 1st Cav cap. When I left I did the same by taking my grandson to all the tables with active service and Vet's.

When I got out of the service, I had the good sense not to tell anyone I was a vet. I think things have changed for the better. If it was me, I would prefer a little less stroking from the civilians ... but then I like to be let alone.

Anyway, I'm glad to se the general civilian pop. supporting the troops, even if they go a little overboard on it.
