Trouble with that that is the level of cooperative-ness can turn on a sixpence when a Firearms Licensing Manager retires, or a new one comes in, or a new Chief Officer comes in who hates gun ownership. Cambridgeshire went from one of the best to one of the worst some years ago, and hopefully things will improve in Sussex now Brian Ellis has departed.

(I posted something on Sun but I think it was wiped off)
To be fair, I can't complain about Staffs so far - got five on my initial license (only been shooting for two years now) and recently got an extra 303 and 7.62 after a home visit/interrogation.

Spoke to the base armourer at RAF Coningsby today.
Small Arms records are only kept 3 years and then destroyed so no chance of finding out any of its history or service life.

Boy, am I glad that I am in Reno, Nevada - my paltry little collection is safe - for now. My heart goes out to the Britishicon shooting community. I just hope that the next UK government is not full of gormless morons (well, at least has fewer gormless morons).

The rumours are that the Tories are already in discussion with the Home Office about Firearms legislation. As they were the lot that took our pistols away (apart from a few .22 pistols that Labour took) I am not expecting anything pro-gun ownership. Especially as the Mandarins at the Home Office tend to have the next lot of more restrictive legislation on the back burner just waiting for a change of government or an excuse like: Shepherds Bush (1968 Act), Hungerford (1988 Act) Dunblane (1997 Act).

On the bright side, one of the rumours is about tweaking the 1988 Act to allow semi-auto .17s. The Act currently bans all self-loaders except .22 rimfire. It makes a lot of sense (so it probably won't happen) because most opinion is that .17s are much safer than .22s.

That's it - I need to return to Englandicon and run for parliament on the platform of repealing the gun laws that have actually assisted in driving crime rates up. That, and bringing back corporal punishment in our school systems. While I'm at it, how about getting the UK out of the E.U.? Expelling Gordon Brown to Elba?

True enough - no uk politician has any thoughts whatsoever about slackening gun laws. The last wheeze was plans to ban DEACTIVATED weapons, although that seems to have been kicked into the long grass (probably when they realised how impossible it would be to enforce and how many law abiding citizens they could be criminalising).
