John I think Beerhunter was saying that if it was a MKIm it wouldn't have had a dovetail mount.

Saying that a few hundred intermediate Inglis Brens marked - MKIm went through with the dovetail but no 'dimples' to the front of the body.

My intermediate Inglis MKIm S/N M4439

Peter all the drawing I have show it mounted on the front dovetail regardless of scope or mount type.

    These drawings DD(E)2444
DD(E) SK No 316 and DD(E)2514 show the rear apperture sight in relation to the scope eye piece.Edited to say that the red arrow is indicating the drum sight arm.

Was there a later drawing or ammendments ?

Some of the early Mk1M guns still had the second dovetail. I have such a gun in my collection (dewat unfortunately). It would seem some of the mk1 features were still to be found during the changeover to Mk1(m).

One could also remove the dial type sight as the dovetail was the same. This would not leave you an alternative if your scope (or indirect fire sight) got broken however.

Edited to add that I see I spent too long looking for my photo and Kev beat me to the punch.

You're all dead right about the Inglis Mk1 to Mk1m Brens. The changeover was during the M-42xx to M-44xx serial number range But If anyone has a Mk1m marked Inglis with two dovetails I'd like to tighten up the serial number range.

That's a rare beast, the indirect fire dial sight. The range charts for this sight were kept in a little rubberised protective bag that was housed in the bottom of the chest, close to the squared off bit where the tin of grease was going to go. The tins of grease are as rare as the OHF sights!

Apologies KevG, the tele sight was to be housed in the rear dovetail but the telescope was positioned much further to the rear in the Bren bracket to give the correct eye relief. The bracket of which two were manufactured was as shown in the second drawing. Note the similarities with the eventual No4T bracket.

By now you can see why the deflection drum for the No32 telescopes is on the left instead of the more ergonomically correct right side. It's to clear the Bren magazine. It didn't change! There was a plan to change over to the right it for the L42/L1A1 but it was an expensive option so it stayed on the left for ever and ever, amen!

I think that this thread has made it very clear Peter. On a MK1, the dial sight goes in the dovetail under the magazine housing and the No32 in the dovetail occupied by the Drum Sight.

Well it's not very clear to me LOL
The 2nd drawing as the others, show the scope in the forward dovetail under the mag well not in the rear dovetail occupied by the drum sight.
.......or is the drawing not correct ?

......or am I having a particularly bad day

    Inglis MkI(M) Scope Mount

    Hey Kevin;

The setup I bought from Dugelby was pretty much the same as your centre dwg.
Eye relief WAS a tad long as I recall but it shot like a house on fire.As Rob said, I REALLY WISH that I had kept it as it wasn't a dewat and was in pristine condition too.
I had loads of ammo thanks to Her Majesty and a contact at 13X and about ten brand new barrels along with 3 metal boxes of brand new Inglis mags and all the spare parts you could ever want.

Shot up a storm most weekends up near Uxbridge(Ontario NOT the "other one").Fun times !

    Cheers,

    JR

    "Beerhunter"

Needs to do at least three things...

    A) sign the pledge

    B)Go on the wagon

C)consult a GOOD opthamologist as he needs a new Rx for better specs.

You put the evidence in front of him and it gets IGNORED..Amazing !!

Rob: I think that I may have my old Firearms Licence(the 6 per page one that predated the smaller green slip registrations).I'll root about for it and see if I can find it and get the S/N for My Inglis MkI M.Did you take any photos of my cutaway at Calgary ? IF so please post them for Badger.

    Cheers,

    JR

I think you could be right because I have no idea what I have ignored. (Other than there are some Inglis made Mk1Ms that have the forward dovetail and I didn't think any further comment was needed on that.)

As to that mount on the front dovetail it will have to wait until the weekend when I have the time to get my bren and no32 Mk1 together.
