DPMS LR-308 Shooting Accuracy

I shot the groups in the photo (link above) at 200 yards from sandbag rest with my DPMS LR-308 w/24" stainless heavy barrel in early December, cloudy with temp in mid 30's. Rifle has a Weaver Classic scope set at 14x. I used factory Hornady 168gr BTHP Match ammo. (Hope the link works.)

The center 5 shots was the first string from a cold clean barrel, 2.71". The upper left string was next, 5 shots in 1.17". The lower right was last, 3 shots 0.660". (No more ammo as I used 7 rds in another rifle, and didn't purchase more than a box of 20 at a cost of $27.)

Will try some of my reloads and then post back some time later. Some have asked if these rifles are any good. The sub MOA accuracy displayed is typical for mine, and I like it just fine.

ive had the same results with mine , a friend has hand loaded to the LR308 he has and achieved 5 touching on one occassion i observed - im not that good anymore

Mine doesn't like the common low velocity match ammo. When I ran my last few Lapua 167 grain match ammo through it, the rifle turned into one heck of a shooter. unfortunately this ammo is hard to find and fairly expensive.

If reloading think about reloading towards the higher end.

Also replace the crap stock trigger. I went with a RRA 2 stage match.

i agree , i hads access to a JP trigger , it is a vast improvement over stock

...last Saturday from a private individual, who apparently did not like it. He said he had only put 20 rounds through it, and it looks like it.

We dickered a bit, and I got it for about $150 less than the best dealer price for a new one at the show.

I also picked up a Nikon Monarch, 6.5-20x44, used, for $275. I mounted it Sunday, zeroed it, and took it to the range on Monday.

I've only shot it at 100 yards so far, as I'm still breaking in the barrel.

I'm using a Sierra 168gr BTHP Match King bullets, over IMR4895 powder, and Lake City match brass.

So far, the thirty rounds have grouped very nicely. All three targets scored 100 on a B52 (200 yard) target. Later this week it goes to the 200 yard line.

So far, it seems to perform well. No misfeeds, jams, or any other problems.
