I have one in my collection, so I'll have to get it out in the next few days and measure it the best I can for you ...

I'll post dimensions here when I get that done ..

`Tis smaller than the K89k hood which is approx 20.15 mm long and 19 - 20 mm high.

I have two 33/40 hoods. One is 16.1 mm long and 18.8 mm high and the other is 13.2 mm long and 20.9 mm high.

I have seen plenty of ORIGINAL 33/40 rifles with modified K89k hoods. The rounded ends that clip onto the base are gound flat with a groove to fit the sight base.

    33/40 Mauser

I will be receiving two 33/40s in the next few weeks and I am not sure they have sight hoods. Will I have to modify some K98kicon hoods or are there any repros available?

Take a careful look at the way the 33/40 sight hood grips the base. Normal K89k sight hoods are rounded outwards and would have to be dremeled off.

    33/40 front sight cover

Anyone know the approximate value of an original 33/40 front sight cover ?

I have a friend who wants to sell one to me (I have a matching dot 41) and want to pay the current value.

They´re hens´ teeth here in Germanyicon. 33/40s are very desirable and collectors are very particular about getting a genuine sight hood. Most of the Gebirgsjäger rifles on the market at present are ex Norwegianicon issue and are without the sight hood. Furthermore, continuous use with standard issue ammunition usually leads to throat erosion. 33/40s are getting to be very rare (and expensive). Most of the sight hoods I´ve seen recently are ex-K89k ones ground on a dfremel (see my previous post).
