Okay, I'm partway into stripping my newly arrived Century Arms '43 Long Branch and I have a question: is there a good reason for my barrel to be painted green under the handguards? I don't mean oxidized, discolored, etc. It is PAINTED GREEN, I can see the brush strokes. WTF is this?

In peace time prior to WWII the Enfield Rifle was completely stripped and torn down for a yearly inspection. Due to war time combat conditions the Enfield was painted below the wood line and only torn down when required for maintenance.
