    Checking Head Space

The instructions that come with head space gauges say to remove the extractor before measuring. What's lost if I slip the the gauge rim under the extractor claw and measure it that way?

    Thanks,

    Mike

    it will measure fine.
    however.
i remove the cocking assembly..for safety reasons..
if you slip the gauge under the extractor, it will be easyier to use.
remove the floorplate and follower, slip it in under that way.
    dont force it..

More of an issue with spring-loaded extractors and ejectors on autoloaders. For bolt guns I do like Chuck says.

the only reason i remove the cocking assembly..
dont want to dry fire on that hard gauge...
    however..
the 1917 and P14,s need to have the cocking assembly removed to check the headspace correctly.
cock on close vs cock on open.
