    Unknown Mystery Zeiss Rifle Scope?

I originally addressed this to Claven2, but I am hoping that someone might have an answer for my Mystery Scope.

I recently came into a Karl Zeiss straitbarreled scope about 9 inches long. It looks about a 3-6 power with a knurled ring around the barrel about a 3rd of the way from the eye relief. This 1 inch wide knurled ring provides the adjustment. It doesn't have a elevation turret. It is very similar to the "Adalbert" Mauser scopes that I have seen previously otherwise.

It was brought back by a veteran of WWII and was received with a bunch of other Germanicon WWII stuff.

It is 9 inches long, made of brass, thick black paint covered with a wear mark on the end where an eye piece probably was previously. The reticule is a cross hair with nothing else (no distance hash marks). One last identifying feature is a small 1/3 ring shaped piece 1/3 rd of the way around the barrel with two screws holding it in place.

It says "Zeiss 12834" between the knurled ring and other 1/3 ring. I take this to be a serial number.

Would you or any other forum participants know anything about this scope??

    Thanks and best regards,

Could you post some pics of the scope?I have one down stairs that sounds very much as you've described. Its a Drilling scope used on a US 1938 Prototype, I'd be very interested if its the same model- Many thanks-SDH

It sounds like a prewar Zeiss sporting scope due to the crosshair reticle and brass body. Like SDH mentioned, a pic would help to positively ID it....

    thanks SDH1911 and Steve1973

I will take a few pictures of it just as soon as I can find my camera cable and hook it up. If not I will use my camera phone and email them here.

How do I go about posting pics to this thread?

Lastly I forgot to mention, on the other side of the 1/4 ring one third of the way from the end of the scope, there is a small barrel (about 3/8ths of an inch high and 3/8ths inch in diameter) with a set screw at the end of the barrel. This must be the elevation adjustment. I haven't tried it yet.
Optics are a bit dark but clear (no Scratches).

Any ideas on what this would be worth if it is a drilling scope?

    Thanks again,

    Robert Ditty

    Hi SDH1911,

Was that the same scope you said you have downstairs?

I posted a picture to the Forum String.
