#4 T Sling

What would be a passable leather sling for a "Poor man's " #4 T clone ? Where did the original slings come from ?

From what I could find from the links and Wikipedia. "The M1907 two-piece leather rifle sling was the most common type of sling used with the weapon through World War II. In 1943 a khaki canvas sling was introduced that gradually became more common." So, I am thinking a repo USMC leather sling would be a fair "Poor Mans" #4 T sling ? Keeping in mind I am not trying to sell it to anyone. It's just a toy that is as close to a real #4T that I can play with at the range. Jack

That's fine! Same sling, its just not an unusable WWI relic.

let's not forget that Mr Laidler recently revealed that Bren slings were popular with snipers in Italy in WWII - so factor them in too!

Repro 1907 slings aren't too pricey as it is. Sportsman's Guide has them for $19 or so. Cabela's and Cheaper Than Dirt too ...

GOOD slings usually cost more. If you don't pull the hooks off whilst using it, though, I wouldn't worry too much.

Talking of Bren slings being a good sniper sling. I notice that while some of the sniper rifles being used by the sniper div. here tsill have the old, wide and useless (very slippery when wet) L42 slings fitted, many have the newer, thinner, 'same meat, different gravy' webbing non-slip slings fitted but about 6 have good old-fashioned long, webbing Bren slings fitted.

I commented on this and the snipers are allowed the choice after their initial selection. What goes around comes around as they say. They get told about these things so they go out and but them cheap!

Most of the repro 1907 slings have steel hooks rather than bronze(?). You can sometimes find rotten originals and move the bronze hooks over to the new leather. A little incongruous, but better that steel IMO.
