about a company called Historic Arms out of Georgia that is making semi-auto Brens in .303 and 7.62x51mm. Does anyone here know anything about this outfit? I'd give my eye-teeth to get my grubby little mits on an L4!

I've used both types Longshaor and both have their good bits. The old .303" guns would just sweetly bang on all day with that slow old popping as though the cartridges were filled with 90 octane petrol. But the 7.62mm L4's roared, went a bit faster and felt like they were running on 110 octane fighter aviation fuel. As a result, you had to take a bit more care of the L4. But given a choice of both, I'll take a 7.62mm L4 because the ammo is cheaper and easier to get!

If the company you're thinking of using for your L4 don't beef up the magazine well in the body, as we did with the L2A2 onwards, then don't buy it and stick to the well tried and trusted .303. No mag well strengtheners, no buy!

Longshaor, I have a friend who wants to sell his semi-auto Bren in .303. He's got a perfect F/A EFD Mk.1 now and it's surplus to his needs. It's not one built by Len at Historic Arms but by another company in Texas who's name slips my mind. If you email me directly, I can put you two together and maybe you can make a deal. FYI: I've just fired my first two magazines from my post sample L4A3 a couple of days ago and Peter's description of the difference in "feel" is spot on.

Oh, the agony of choice! I have a fair few Enfields, and I love the .303 round, but that L4 is calling to me... Now I just have to see if it's legal in my state!
