Not near enough detail given to help you, so far.

Are you wanting general 91-30 info, overall Moisin-Nagant goodness, or do you have specific concerns?

Besides, for $80 it might be worth it for parts...

Its surely possible to get a perfectly good 91/30 for $80. Probably going to be a recent import that's been reworked. If the bore's good and the numbers match(even if "force matched"), then its probably just fine.

BTW, I'd rather have a good 91/30 for most things than a WASR-10, but that's just me...

    I agree with you, jmoore.
Here, in Italyicon, I payed my M91/30 - still in very good conditions - Euro340.00 I belive it is "a little bit" more than $80.

both of my 91/30's were $80 and $69.95 respectively. they're in very good to excellent condition and the $80 one is all matching too.

Was this at a Big 5 Sporting Goods store? They have good sales on Mosins, I've bought two from the local store. See if you can look at all the ones they have, and bring a bore light with you. Look for good rifling and matching numbers, a "hex" receiver is a plus...more desireable/collectible. My 91/30 is a 1938 Tula, shoots great. Many of them will have been counterbored at the muzzle, not necessarily a bad thing.

A common problem is crud in the chamber that makes the bolt hard to open after firing. This can be fixed by putting a 20 ga. shotgun brass brush in a section of cleaning rod, then putting that in a drill and scrubbing the hell out of the chamber with Hoppes.
