Taller Front Sight Blade for Mauser

    Hello All,
I have purchased a 1912 / 61 Steyr Chileanicon Mauser in 7.62 NATO. I'm looking to use the rifle in milsurp matches our rifle club holds. The distances are for 100-300yds. I'm pretty sure the front sight blade may have the rifle set up for a 200-300yd battle zero. So a taller front sight will be required. I read of a method in another site that calls for the blade to be built up w/ Brownells Acra-glas and then filed down to the desired P.O.I.. is there other methods to accomplish this or somewhere I can find taller blades to install? Thanks

    Brownells has.........

.........replacement front sights that are considered to be a "blank". Meaning the dovetail is proper size for the Mauser, but the "post" is tall and square. You file to fit for your particular application, load, etc.

    HTH,

    Emri

We use a other method. We have the possibility to go to guy who is able to do Laser welding. That is great it works on the smallest piece without any damage. He welds up the frontsight for an 1mm and we file it down to the correct shape. I`m sure that there will be a shop that can do it.

    Regards

Fast home fix. Get a bit of brass shim stock. Maybe .005 to .010 thick. Cut some the width of front sight blade. Fold into a V to mach front sight blade. Trim legs and soft solder it over front sight blade. File to correct height for your ammo and then a touch of flat black. This makes it possible to return the rifle to original.

tngunparts.com has the larger front sight. Just scroll through the site until you find Mauser tall sights. I've purchased several and they are TALL. You might need to file them down.

Brownells also has taller front sight blades for Mausers. You have to set the height yourself; it's strictly a fit-to-your-application item.
