Is it me, or is "7.62" stamped into the wood below the parker hale sight, aligned horizontally with the buttsocket serial number?

Has the seller indicated what the caliber is?

The last two digits are "6 2", the first could be a 7 or a 2. Could it be a partial rifle serial? I haven't seen caliber or serial stampings in that location before.
