    No 4 Bayonet Tool

A friend of mine showed me a tool today that incorporates a No 4 spike bayonet. It is a shaft of wood that is about 18 inches or so long with iron fittings on each end that a no4 bayonet is attached to. We weren't sure what iwas used for. It may be a anti personnel mine probe but I am not sure. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Terry Johnston

It is the haft of an entrenching tool. The No4 style bayonet fitting at one end is for attaching a No4 MkII bayonet for use as a mine probe. The other end is for attaching the entrenching tool blade. In other words there is a bit missing.
