Winston Churchill wrote a series of books about ....

himself and called it "The Second World War"!

This six volume series is really a mammoth work and is a tribute to his work ethic and powers of concentration and eloquence. Valuable to readers of history, the work has a couple of faults. First, it is limited in what was revealed due to the Britishicon offical secerts act's under which even Churchill had to operate. Second, on reading the book's, you may get the impression that only Churchill actually fought the war! There is no mention of the Chiefs of Staff commitee for example!

For all it faults however, it is a very valuable work and should be read by any student of history. All the books come with photographs, maps and appendix's.

The Volumes are, together with the approximate period covered:
One: The Gathering Storm. 1919 to May 10th, 1940.
Two: Their Finest Hour. May, 1940 to January 1941.
Three: The Grand Alliance. 1941 to January 1942.
Four: The Hinge of Fate. 1942 to June 1943.
Five: Closing The Ring. June 1943 to June 1944.
Six: Triumph and Tragedy. June 1944 to July 1945

In July 1945, Churchill was voted out of office, a memory that pained him to the end of his day.

I have read them all many years ago. He was an unbelievably person, outstanding leader and a wee bit of a heavy drinker. I've also read many books on Eisenhower and it amazes me that these two were living in the same period of time. I think of it as a divine installation to put these men together to snuff out what was truly an evil period in history-SDH

True, he was a giant of a person indeed. The first half of the 20the centry has been called "The Churchill Years" as he so completely dominated them. However there were a lot of talented people around him, as well as around Eisenhower.

There is a book, "Churchill and His Generals", I will do a review of it shortly!
