    Unertl Scope

I have been thinking of building an 03A4 clone and I bought this scope today. I know it isn't military but will it work? I don't know if I paid too much but then again I haven't seen too many in the box. I hope it's not a reproduction.

Kind of OK for the USMC '03 rifle, but only in a general "looks correct at 100yds" sort of way. Completely won't work w/ an '03a4.

Thanks guys, I was watching an auction and it came up, I had done no research but thought it looked right. I'll find another use for it. I looked a few different places and I found a few for sale without the box for about what I paid. I'll have to find out what year it's from and check my rifle collection for a match.

This fellow might be able to tell you exactly what you have (Unertl probably made a dozen or more models of target scope), when it was made and how much its worth.

Here is what you are probably thinking about:

    USMC M-1941 Unertl sniper rifle.

To be correct, you need to find a 1903A1 to first start.

I have an '03A1 mounted with a Lyman Super TargetSpot 12X.
It is amazing to see how these rifles can shoot.

Very nice scope that you have.

I have both, Unertl and Lyman, scopes in 12x. Superb pieces of optics.

A bit sensitive and cumbersome for rapid field use under combat situation, especially in Pacific/jungle conditions.

But, in Korea, where long shots were more frequent, this sniper system was much better than the '03A4 or the M1C or M1D.

.....an average retail price for scopes like you describe ?? I need a Winchester A5, but might put a Lyman or Unertl on to pass time till an A5 comes along. I see more Lymans than Unertls in the wooden cases.

    Thanks,

    Emri

Prices are highly variable depending on specifics such as:

    Magnification,
    model,
    condition,
    desirabillity,

and.... how badly you need/want one.

Gun shows and e Bay are two good sources.

Roughly prices are starting at about $500 IMO.

I would love to shoot one, I'm thinking it is a very accurate rifle. I have been shooting my M1D quite a bit lately and due to the 2.2x scope(and my 53 year old eyes), it is a tough rifle to master beyond 500 meters.
