That one is real, I can't tell for sure on the mount. The ends should be rounded on the long pin that holds the halves together and there should be a little circle with a capitol M cast into the mount body, at least there is on mine.

The M84 scope looks original, more than you can say for the mount.

I am curious to know about the rings used with M84 on the A4??

I have an original A4 with Alaskan mounted in original Redfield top split rings.

I have a repro M84 that I wanted to put on a M1C. The come up system is more appealing for longer shots compared to the Alaskan.
However, the scope sits lower than on a M1D and I feel more comfortable with the M1C/M82 combination, especially if you are left handed....
Also, to get proper eye relief, the rubber eye protector has to really bump into the rear sight left wing.

I had the opportunity to look at some repro M84 scopes at Sarco last week. They are blue, the adjustment covers are different in shape than the originals, all in all they are pretty nice. The serial numbers on the data plate all start with "W". Not to say that in the future some folks will change the data plate. The data plates Sarco used to sell were original Libby-Owens-Ford items, with the box for the number. The repros look about the same.

Here is a Sarco photo of their repro scope.

So, technically, these can be called "USGI", but are really "parts" scopes.
According to the fellow that did that work, a few parts, especially the tubes, were in short supply and had to be imported from Taiwan.

I recently purchased one of the M84 repro scopes from Numrich. Since I was unable to find any info on how these scopes actually performed, I decided to find out for myself, apparently noone has actually mounted one and shot it. My CMPicon M1D needed a scope and mount for me to shoot the rifle in the upcoming CMP Eastern Games "Vintage Sniper Rifle Test Match" in may. I aquired a USGI mount and installed the repro scope. It came with no instructions of any kind, and I had quite a time with this scope and the adjustment system, if that is what you call it. The scope advertisment states it is "set for a 300 yard zero. Apparently someone is mis-infromed about that, as I was unable to get it on paper at all (the rounds impacted the ground well short of the target @300 yards). The adustement knobs do not operate like the GI knobs, the reticl adjustment has a square, and the knobs have corresponding squares, so you can only adjust in 90 degree increments. The adjusnment backlash is at least three clicks and then iy will not maintain zero. I am very disappointed in this scope, and will be returning it today.

I also bought one of the repro mounts ffrom Northridge International. I cannot get the mount to close on the 7/8" scope due to obvious warping of the movable half of the mount. I will also be returning it!

Too bad, I really wanted to shoot in this match. Thanks, Andy
